Living a Life With Purpose

Some people tend to think (and try to convince others too) that it is not necessary to have a purpose for one’s life; they just want to live their life as it is and take no notice of anything else. Well, I believe just the opposite, and here’s exactly why your life needs a purpose.

01. A purpose is the beginning of a conscious life

No matter how many tasks you perform every day, if you don’t do them with a purpose, you can be led towards the wrong path and get pushed out of your lane. If your goals don’t have anything to do with your purpose, you will end up in a complex situation in the future. If you try to achieve a goal for the next 10 years and realize that the respective goal doesn’t have anything to do with what you exactly want, it is an utter waste of time. Setting an exact purpose for your entire life will not eliminate all the problems. But, if you have a clear purpose for your life, you can start to set both short and long-term goals and make plans; this way, you can begin to create the life you want.

02. You can differentiate what is important for you

Many people want to make a difference and yet don’t know how to differentiate what is important from what is not. Because of this, people can easily get distracted by so many things and end up living an ordinary or less satisfactory life. However, if you have a clear purpose, you can easily differentiate what is really important to you. For instance, upgrading your car might be more important to you than purchasing a second house or vice versa; if you have a purpose, you will easily identify what is most important.

03. It gives meaning to your life

After determining the purpose of your life, you will start to see clear directions. Everything you do will have meaning and you will hardly go astray. A purposeful life will lead you to find jobs that fit your desire and passion, mingle around with people who are very positive, avoid toxic thoughts and build high self-esteem.

04. It gives you consistency and passion

The energy a meaningful purpose can deliver to your life makes you more consistent in whatever you do. As soon as you realize the purpose of your life, you will start to do what you really enjoy and want to do instead of doing what you used to do. When you do what you like, you are less likely to veer off your chosen path.

The easiest way to find the purpose of your life is to determine what you actually like to do. Don’t try to do what others do; they have their own purposes which might not fit you. Take your time to explore what you want to do and set your purpose based on that. Once you have determined your own purpose, it will not let you down.

Strengthening the Good Instead of the Weaknesses

Contrary to what is taught in conventional studies, it is always better to focus on perfecting the strengths inside you instead of the weaknesses. If you wish to start perfecting the strengths you already have, the first thing you should do is to identify them.

What are strengths?

In simplest terms, a person’s strengths are the activities he or she performs exceptionally well. When it comes to a broader description, however, our strengths can be described as activities that:

– We love to engage in with no hesitation even if others consider them too challenging

– Make us automatically focus and concentrate so that we easily lose track of time

– Make us feel energized and develop positive feelings within us

– We want to do repeatedly and work at to gain more confidence

What are our weaknesses?

– These are activities that we don’t want to do

– They are the activities that can generate negative feelings from the beginning

– They are activities that make us really exhausted both physically and mentally

Conventional studies demand that we identify our weaknesses and then work to improve them. With this method, we cannot expect wonderful results. Such an approach will not allow you to become the best version of yourself. According to the list we have mentioned above, it is a waste of time if you try to master or improve something you actually don’t want to do. Such an approach will not be successful as you obviously lack the passion and willingness even before you start the process.

What you must do instead is to identify your key strengths and enhance them even better. As a result of strengthening your best qualities, you will be able to perform outstandingly in the selected area instead of becoming a mediocre person. As soon as you start to strengthen what you are already good at, you will start to like yourself, care about your own wellbeing and develop higher self-esteem. You will start the process with confidence, and you hardly have anything to sacrifice. Each minute you spend mastering what you are already good at will be pleasant and joyous for you.

When it comes to an instance like searching for a job that perfectly matches your strengths, you should be prepared to make some sacrifices. Even the luckiest ones may not find a tailor-made job unless they start their own business and work for themselves. So, realistically, you will have to settle for something almost perfect instead of perfection when you are looking for an opportunity. If not, you can consider starting your own company. For instance, if you are an exceptionally talented graphic designer, you can start your own graphic design firm and work from home (online); so is the case with many other professions these days.

So, if you are willing to do yourself a favor, why don’t you start mastering the strengths you already have and forget about worrying about your weaknesses?

Why Working Passionately Is Important

A considerable number of employees today do their jobs just because they want to bring home the bacon. Honestly speaking, most of them just don’t like it (some of them even hate their job). If you are one of them, it is just not the right choice for you. You have to spend a considerable number of hours working; if you really dislike what you do throughout the day, your future may feel bleak. Here’s why working passionately is important.

01. Passion makes you a well-focused person

When you are purpose-driven and fueled by passion, you establish a level of clarity that others fail to obtain. This clarity not only energizes your pursuit, but it also causes you to become a well-focused person. When your passion fuels your pursuits, clarity comes. When you become clear with your purpose it becomes easier to main focus. And once your become established and well-focused, it becomes consistent in your DNA that success in various areas of your life is attainable.

02. Passion increases creativity

When you are working with passion, the work you do will be a pleasure for you. You will continue to experience growth; there will be more ups in your career than downs. As a result of this joyous experience, you will consistently make an effort to put more creativity into your work. Your progressive ideas will start to flow, and this is a significant difference compared to an average employee.

03. Your contribution to work will be significant

When you are working passionately, you always do your best work. Passion eventually leads you to do your work with competency. Each and every job you do will be totally complete. ‘Average job’ will not be in your vocabulary anymore. This will make you an exceptionally important member of your team and that increases your professional value significantly. Once you become a valuable member of your team, your single contribution becomes significant to the corporate. In order to contribute on this higher level, where your contributions remain significant, you must fan the flames of passion. Talent alone is just not enough!

04. Working passionately is energizing

When you are working passionately, boredom will never be an issue. On working days, you will wake up with more energy and motivation to do your best work which will lead to self-satisfaction about a job well done. Your positive energy will last throughout the day. That is why those who are passionate about their work rarely feel exhausted at the end of the day.

05. You are less likely to be stressed

Work stress is common among those who do average jobs, but not among people who work with passion. When you are involved with work you love to do, your mind and body will be so relaxed and there will be minimal chances to be stressed.

06. You start to motivate others

A passionate worker is a priceless asset to any workplace. Passionate workers tend to collaborate and cooperate to help others to achieve their goals as well. The way you work, your body language, the words you speak, and your overall behavior will set an example for others.

Passion and motivation are excellent qualities that are welcome at any workplace. Once you find work you are passionate about, life will become easier, and you will feel more relaxed all the time.

Don’t Let ‘Em Devalue You

I have worked in the automotive industry for close to 10 years. And I have studied many of the common practices used in the industry and applied them to my everyday life. There is a common practice called “Devaluing the Trade.”

This practice involves the technique of devaluing every vehicle that is brought in to be used as a trade-in. The trade-in has real money value. Often used as a total down payment for a new or newer vehicle, customers bring their vehicle to a dealership to have it appraised to use its money value towards their car/truck deal.

No matter how much you believed your vehicle was worth when you left home, the job of the dealership is to “buy” your vehicle from you (trade-in) for as little as possible, while selling its vehicle to you for as much as possible. And how they are able to pay so little for your vehicle is by devaluing it!

The word “devalue” is a verb that means to “reduce or underestimate the worth or importance of.” Other words with similar meanings include belittle, depreciate, make light of, discredit, underrate, undervalue, underestimate, deflate, diminish, trivialize, run-down, defame, knock, slam, bad-mouth, sell short, put down, pick holes in, and look down one’s nose at.”

So, if I am your salesman for the new car, my job is to devalue your trade-in (in your presence) to soften the blow of the low-ball number we are willing to offer you. How do I do this? I’ll walk you around your vehicle, with pen and paper in my hand. Without saying a word, I will then proceed to find and touch every scratch, every dent, every chip, and every blemish that I can find. I’ll put my hand on the tires to demonstrate an issue with the depth of the treads. I also either write or pretend I’m writing detailed notes, to project “strikes” against your vehicle. This is all done to devalue your vehicle in your mind. To challenge your expectations of a high trade-in value. This is all done so that I can pay a small amount for your vehicle and turn around and sell the same vehicle for a much higher price to the next person! In this case, the dealership feels it has to devalue your vehicle enough in your eyes, so you’ll accept their embarrassingly low offer – all to make a profit.

In life, things aren’t that different. We all have people in our lives that try to devalue us. There are people in the marketplace, people on the job, insecure people that we’re in a relationship with, people who oppose us, people after our position, etc., that are constantly trying to devalue us – for their profit!

One person will find it necessary to devalue their spouse to make themselves look or feel more valuable. A competitor will try to devalue your work to bring unearned value to their own work. Even buyers will try to devalue the product they came to you to buy to justify their crazy low offer! What’s the remedy to falling prey to this tactic? Know your own value ahead of time and don’t waver. Do your research. Get neutral people in your life to help you make honest appraisals. Find and use available tools to assess your value. Take an honest appraisal of yourself. Know what your strengths and weaknesses are. Build upon your strengths. Practice your craft. Keep learning. Keep growing. Never sell yourself short. Don’t compromise. Never sell out! Know at all times what you have to contribute. Know what you bring to the table. And most of all…Never let ‘em devalue you! Get all your money!

Sharing Your Knowledge

The knowledge you have is an exceptionally powerful gift that is worth sharing. While accepting the fact that you are the sole proprietor of the knowledge you possess, it is important that you don’t keep it to yourself. The most interesting thing about sharing your knowledge is that it helps you in several ways apart from helping others.

Here’s why you should consider sharing your knowledge

01. Sharing improves what you already know

According to specialists, your knowledge gets sharpened every time you share it. In other words, the more you share, the sharper your knowledge will be.

02. Sharing your knowledge broadens your boundaries

When you share your experience with others, you are more likely to engage in constructive discussions. During these discussions, you are likely to improve your knowledge by hearing, seeing and experiencing new things.

03. It can set you apart from the crowd

Soon after you start to share your knowledge, others will start to consider you as an expert or a knowledge hub in your respective area of expertise. Soon, you will be recognized as a leader and a reliable person who can help others. Over time, such an approach can generate a significant number of followers.

04. Your professional recognition improves

Suppose that you work with a team, and you tend to share your knowledge with the rest of the members; your professional recognition will increase significantly. Gradually, you will become an (the) essential member of the team and the entire organization. The word will spread faster than you can imagine and more opportunities in the relevant industry will open up for you.

How should you share your knowledge?

Thanks to the development of technology, there is no shortage of options to consider in terms of sharing your knowledge.

01. Start a blog

One of the most cost-effective and easiest ways to share your knowledge with others is to start a blog. You can use audio, video, and written content in your blog and interested readers will consider your blog a valuable source of knowledge.

02. Be exposed

You should expose yourself to local business groups and event organizers who are related to your sector. This approach can offer you opportunities to take part in conferences and meetings. You can also consider organizing your own seminar.

03. Send a newsletter

A well-constructed newsletter with regular circulation can be a very useful source of knowledge to your audience. It is best if you can keep up with a regular circulation schedule, for instance, a biweekly newsletter.

04. Use your social media profile

Your social media profile is an exceptionally effective tool in the context of sharing what you know. Regularly posted valuable content can be really useful for the ones that follow you. However, you shouldn’t forget to meet people in person whenever it is possible and engage in constructive discussions (after the events you attend). Although social media exposes you to a larger audience, meeting in person is incredibly effective in most cases.

Patience does pay off

In addition to religions and philosophers, a large number of modern-day researchers render a high regard for patience. Although the quote “good things come to those who wait” is a very old one, recent studies continue to back it up firmer. Let’s take a look at how patience pays off in real life.

01. Patience lets you stay positive and happy

There is very less room for depression and negative emotions in the presence of patience. Health experts generally believe that impatience is among the most powerful caused of depression and anxiety. On top of those, impatience tends to generate negative emotions. This is because that impatience makes people to cope worse with stressful, unexpected or upsetting instances.

As you develop patience, on the other hand, you will start to show express very positive and pleasant feelings such as freedom and gratitude with better consciousness. You will start to stay connected to you loved ones and to the entire society. All these characteristics eventually lead to better mental health.

02. Patience make you a better friend, a colleague and a neighbor

When it comes to relationships, patience is considered to be more of type of a kindness. If you can tolerate mistakes the others around you do and accept their imperfections with a kind heart, you automatically become a very pleasant person. The others around you (your colleagues, your friends, your neighbors and your family members) will consider yourself as a ‘most wanted. Your tenderly attention and kind words will be a priceless relief for those who are around you. In fact, you can succeed in such situation simply by realizing nobody is perfect (including you).

03. Patience helps you stay the course

If you expect to achieve a certain goal (or goals), patience is a key characteristic you should have. In fact, in this case, patience is an extremely powerful approach that helps you navigating through the obstacles you might come across. For instance, if you have a career goal, you must have the patience to withstand the potential jobwise challenges instead of trying to change the jobs frequently. If you can consider those challenges to be tough teachers that gives you valuable lessons, it won’t be that hard to tolerate them (perhaps a patient person might have a more effective way).

04. Patience makes you a healthier person

As you develop patience, you have very few things to worry about. Such freedom of mind can let you sleep better at night. You will experience significantly less stress during the daily activities you engage in. When you are in such good mental condition, your body will start to adapt to it. You will start to work with more energy and dynamism. Regulated heartbeat, very normal blood pressure and well-focused mind set are probable results of such approach.

In addition to that, patience can be a very important characteristic to build a solid personality. The decisions you make and the opportunities you identify are much better if you do it with great deal of patience.

Importance of dedication

No matter whether you are trying to start something new or excel in what you already do, you need a great deal of dedication. It is true that there are plenty of other characteristics for a person to succeed in both professional and personal life, but dedication tops them all due to obvious reasons. Here’s why dedication is important.

Dedication helps you building bigger plans

Be it your personal or professional life, you need both bigger and smaller goals to succeed. Although smaller goals can be achieved within shorter periods, larger goals require longer time periods. When it comes to achieving larger goals (which can also be defined as long-term plans), you might need an extra amount of dedication. In the long run, you will face several obstacles and if you are not dedicated enough, you are most likely to give up the plan in the middle of the process. If you can develop rock-hard dedication, you can confidently think of bigger plans that run for years. Obviously, a successful life is a combination of both short and long-term plans; more often than not, bigger plans decide your future.

Dedication is important for you to stay on course

No matter how solid your plans are and how well you execute them, there are instances that you may not get the expected results. One of the key reasons for your success is that you don’t lose hope and rectify the potential areas. However, you cannot practically do this if you are not dedicated enough. What you must remember is that instant results are not always practical. Just because you don’t see an instant outcome, you shouldn’t necessarily worry and abandon the whole process. Sometimes, a mistake can let you learn an unexpected yet precious lesson to succeed massively in the future. To make all these things a reality, you must have dedication and that is obvious.

Dedication keeps you away from unwanted things

During our lives, we come across various things that are too tempting. Some of these temptations can disturb you from achieving the things you deserve. You cannot do this unless you are totally dedicated to your main intention. This doesn’t necessarily mean that you should give up everything you like; it is about concentrating on your main target and refrain from doing something silly just because of the temptation. One of the most powerful weapons you can use to defeat temptation is your dedication. As long as you dedicate yourself to what you should do, the temptation can hardly do anything.

If you really need to get where you want to be, you need to realize a specific set of goals. Many people think that there are shortcuts to achieve the goals; they are wrong. Short-term plans can lift you up for the moment and if your life depends majorly on such plans, you will lack consistency. Therefore, it is always important to develop both long-term and short-term plans for your life and be dedicated to accomplishing them no matter what.

Importance of considering legacy as a goal

Depending on the type of the life you live, the value of the legacy you leave will vary; it can be within the range of ‘excellent’ and ‘bad’. The value of the legacy you leave will not depend on how wealthy you are. For instance, a very rich person can leave an exceptionally bad legacy to the disappointment of the society he lived. Of course, we don’t want to encourage you to leave a bad legacy; while encouraging you to live a wonderful life, let’s take a look at why you should consider leaving a legacy than making money.

Legacy is a part of your life already

The life you live already is built on a platform that is made out of various aspects; one is legacy. Those who were here before you have created the world around you and you are now a part of it. Likewise, you will leave a world to the others who come after you. Whether they like it or not, they have to live in the world you created. So, don’t you think that it is our duty to leave a better world for the others to live?

It can make things really good or bad

We have heard plenty of stories about people who have done greater amount of good things for the entire world. Apart from the stories, the society you presently live might have plenty of such people who are likely to leave something good for the next generation at the least. On the other hand, there are others who have caused significant disasters to the entire society or to the people around them at the least. What you remember is that what we do definitely affect the others more or less. We have the power of creating good or evil in different scales; hope you choose the good. If you leave a good legacy, that will worth million times than a hefty bank account you leave.

It is an undeniable responsibility

No matter whether you like it or not, you leave a legacy for the others who will replace you in the future. Therefore, you have an undeniable responsibility to leave an impressive legacy. If you are thankful to what you are at present, the legacy others left is a part of it. So, it is your responsibility to pass it to the future. Even if you didn’t enjoy much of legacy, you have a responsibility to act better than the others and leave something appreciable for the world.

It is a way of giving up selfishness

Leaving a legacy is building something that lasts beyond our selves. To do so, you must have a great deal of selflessness. If you can leave a legacy that makes several other people’s lives better, you are better than most of the rich people in the society. What you must focus is not the fame of recognition; it is all about helping others even if you are not around to see how happy they live.

How to make a difference for the betterment?

Do you honestly want to make a difference and see a betterment in your life? Do you wonder if you can really do it? The honest answer is that you CAN do it, by all means! However, if you really want to make a difference, the first thing you should do is to get rid of the too confusing plans and think even simpler. Here’s what you can do as a start.

Avoid comparing yourself with the others

The biggest mistake people do with the intention of making a difference is comparing (in the wrong way). Instead of comparing yourself with someone else, you should start to compare today’s you with yesterday’s you. Such approach might give you an opportunity to see if you have made a difference to yourself in a better way or not. It is really useful approach instead of trying to check if you are doing good compared to a stranger. In fact, self-comparison will surely give you a chance to identify the areas you need to make the difference. That is a good beginning isn’t it?

Do something fresh

Your routine can easily make you bored and stay unchanged of course. You need to break this routine if you expect any difference at all. So, choose to do something new whenever possible; you don’t need to do engage in something really big. Cook a new recipe, play a game of tennis with a new person, learn a new software etc.; it’s that simple! These simple tasks might gradually bring some change to your life and start pumping some dynamism.

Practice to listen

You should be more of a listener than a talker if you want to make a difference. It is true that we live in a fast-paced world and yet we have to listen to the others to achieve the difference you expect. You can consider asking the questions from the others and be prepared to listen to their answers instead of thinking of the next question you are about to ask. This approach will make you different from the others and others will start to hang around you more freely.

Pay attention to what you usually think

What you think gives an impression of what you really feel. You need to observe your thoughts very carefully and analyze your feelings; you must know that your feelings drive your actions. So, be sure to rethink every thought comes to your mind and find out the cause of that thought. If you find the cause, it is easier to find a way to change it (if necessary). This is a very effective and compulsory method to build self-awareness.

Besides, it is really important that you learn to be happy with what you have at the moment. This doesn’t mean that you have to abandon your goals; it is about being happy about the current situation and trying to be happier tomorrow. Interestingly, happy thoughts drag more happiness towards you and ensure to develop a sustainable difference within.

Facing your Goliath; Confronting the problem

The meaning of facing your Goliath is facing an unexpected, giant challenge. A job loss, business crisis, breakup, serious health issue etc. are examples for Goliaths one might face in his or her lifetime. In addition to that, if you are about to make a crucial decision upon a challenge before you, that can also be considered as a Goliath.

Although the problems might appear to be incredibly difficult and too large to handle by yourself, you can knock them out if you identify the vulnerability. As per the legend, Goliath is meant to be knocked out by David; in this case, you are the David and the problem is Goliath.

How to face Goliath?

First, you need to realize that it is a goliath; it may appear to be large in size, fully armored and invincible; yet, it can be knocked out if you identify its vulnerability. If you start with this positive impression and pump energy with determination to your mind, your plan will surely work.

Identify the vulnerability

Like said before, the goliath you face surely have a vulnerability. Depending on the type of the problem, the vulnerability might vary. For instance, if a competitor took your business, you are the person who knows the exact reason for it. Was it because of poor marketing? Poor financial management? less diversification? Poor market evaluation? Rectify the issue and give a fresh start with more power. You have to be realistic in this case; you cannot expect to recover all the money you lost on your business within a couple of days just because you start fresh. However, it gives you an opportunity to start better and gradually move forward to acquire more in the long run.

Forget what you are not capable of; instead, recall what you are capable of

There will be many people around you to tell you how bad the situation is and discourage you (some people do this unintentionally). What you have to do is to forget what you are not capable of and focus on what you are really good at. Doing something you are really good at will help you to overcome bad situations. For instance, if you have lost you job, you can evaluate your strengths and start something by yourself (even at the small scale).

Confront the Goliath correctly

In the event of a job loss, consider the options you can approach; just because you are trying to confront the goliath, that doesn’t necessarily mean you should gain what you had (which is impossible in most of the occasions). Instead, you can try to find another job, or even start your own business. Let’s put it in this way’ the job you did was a source of income and that is not the only available opportunity for you! Likewise, the case might differ depending on the problem you face.

Besides, you must be wise enough to maintain exceptional presence of mind during this transitional period. Don’t be afraid to think of something you are confident. Be sure to list down your strengths and go through it several times a day; an idea might spark out of nowhere!
